ASSESSMENT, EVOLVED
Pearson | Q-Interactive
TRANSFORMING EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT
Pearson Clinical was at an industry defining moment. While testing has been offered digitally in the past, this was the first time the company made a foray into the tablet and mobile space. It aimed to solve the problem of the burdens that paper and bulky test kits bring at the same time realizing the benefits of a mobile platform. Q-Interactive takes their entire portfolio of clinical assessment products and assimilates them into the form factor of the iPad coupled with an online portal site for building test batteries, managing clients, syncing test results, and performing analysis. For practitioners this meant the end of the paper paradigm, ease of use, increased engagement, portability, and time and cost savings. It was a huge leap for the company and the productivity of its practitioners. It was a very exciting and fulfilling project to be a part of and one that I will not ever forget.

TEST KIT IMMERSION
There were an immense amount of requirements to design for that existed within each of these assessment test kits. Scoresheets, stimulus books, manual props, administration and scoring manuals, technical and interpretive manuals, record form, response booklet, etc. It was imperative that we understood not only each of these materials, but the additional requirements of standardization for visual assets and the established design language that existed within the product.
WHO ALL THE EFFORT IS FOR
There were three existing personas that we used as critical guides in the design and development process. Kyle was especially helpful in determining how a child would utilize the iPad during the assessment experience and how they would think and react to the stimulus assets provided on screen. For the practitioner, these were equally beneficial. We leveraged the internal clinical psychologists experience and working knowledge when dealing with all aspects of administration and design. In fact, they were the approval body for every subtest within the assessment and provided the requirements during the research process.

DESIGNING FOR 'CENTRAL'
'Central' is the practitioners web portal. It allows the practitioner to manage all aspects of the assessment including battery and user setup and analyzing results. I was tasked with the design of many new and existing features. One large effort was connecting the Q-Global platform to Q-Interactive via an API to allow the usage of a reporting engine. I was in charge of all aspects of this including Ix, business analysis, and visual design.
